Duluth Icebreakers

To provide an enjoyable and competitive all-girls youth hockey program that offers a high level of personal development, both on and off the ice, giving girls the skills, knowledge, self-confidence and appreciation of commitment to be successful in life's future endeavors.

The DGHA believes in developing hockey opportunities for all girls in our area. Our success is derived from the hard work and commitment given by its players, volunteers and coaches. While nurturing an atmosphere of fun and recreation, we also try to provide the opportunity for achievement and a higher level of play for those who desire it. By participating in hockey, we believe that girls have an opportunity to become better stewards of their peers and society, while learning valuable lessons that they can apply later in life. 

Family (The Foundation) - We believe that our strength lies in our support system. We foster an inclusive environment where every player, sibling, parent, and coach feels like part of a larger whole. We treat one another with the grace and loyalty expected of a family, ensuring that no one stands alone on or off the ice.

Teamwork (The Collective Power) - Success is measured by our ability to move, learn, and grow as one unit. We value the collective over the individual, understanding that we achieve more when we embrace our unique roles, support our teammates, and celebrate our shared efforts rather than individual accolades.

Leadership (The Character) - We cultivate leaders who show up with integrity, courage, and accountability. Whether a team captain or a first-year skater, every member is encouraged to take initiative, lead by example, and advocate for themselves and others with honor and purpose.

Wellness (The Whole Athlete) - We prioritize the health and longevity of our athletes, physically and mentally. Our commitment to wellness means balancing high-level performance with self-care, injury prevention, and building confidence. We aim for players to develop a lifelong love for the game and a healthy approach to their overall well-being.

Community (The Legacy) - We are proud representatives of Duluth. We serve our city with pride, recognizing our role in the local sports landscape. We aim to be good stewards of our rinks and positive ambassadors for our region, honoring our history while building a lasting, welcoming legacy for the next generation of hockey players.

Friendship (The Connection) - The bond forged in the locker room and on the road is the heartbeat of our association. We prioritize joy, laughter, and the creation of lifelong memories. We recognize that the friendships built through the shared challenge of hockey are the most valuable takeaway from the sport.

Following the lead of USA Hockey and the Duluth Amateur Hockey Association, the Duluth Girls Hockey Association is committed to fostering a welcoming environment for all by building a diverse, equitable and inclusive game. We are also committed to raising awareness of the history and future of girls sports, which enriches the lives of our players, families and community.
