Portman

Welcome to Portman for our 2025-26 season!

About Portman

Portman Mission Statement

To provide all area youth an opportunity to excel through the sport of hockey while developing sportsmanship, teamwork, self-esteem, confidence, and respect for others.

About Portman Hockey

Portman hockey has been a staple in our community for over 60 years and has always offered a quality hockey program. Over the years, many Portman alumni have gone on to earn scholarships at some of the finest colleges in the country and some have even gone on to play hockey professionally. There’s so much more that emerges when kids get together at Portman. Bonds are forged, kids learn about hard work, discipline and respect for others. They also receive a ton of exercise — on the cheap, mind you — all the while developing a passion for the great sport of ice hockey.

If you have boys or girls between the ages of 4 and 9 who are looking for a fun and exciting way to spend their winter, plus get involved with friends in a tradition rich activity, then Portman hockey is for you.

Don’t worry if your family has never been involved with hockey before, or if your child has never been on skates. Portman Hockey offers plenty of instruction by our excellent coaching staff who are all USA Hockey certified. Their job is to make sure every child in this program has a fun and fulfilling experience. Portman, along with the Duluth Amateur Hockey Association, has programs for first year players that will help them learn both how to skate and basic concepts of the game of hockey.

Concession Stand Requirements

Each family is expected to complete 5 regular concession shifts during the year. This is counted separately from Great Skate and Jamboree volunteer shifts.

Flooding Crews

Mite 1 and 2 families are expected to help on a flooding crew. Each crew this year floods once every 10 nights.
